It is with great pleasure that we announce the Pennies from Heaven 2019 Award winners. Once again Pennies from Heaven proves itself to be a credible fundraising tool with 1 in 5 of our Award winners achieving take up rates over 40%. Average participation in the scheme has increased to 20%. This year we are giving out a record 41 Awards of which six are for employers who only launched the scheme in 2018 – it is the year the class of 2018 really took home the gold medals!
In 2018 Aldi, One Savings Bank, One Source Virtual, Phoenix Group and SDL Group all launched Pennies from Heaven and in each case more than 20% of staff have joined in. Gattaca also started offering the scheme in 2018 and saw more than 40% of staff sign up at launch.
Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility said: “Aldi UK is delighted to receive a Gold Award from Pennies from Heaven recognising the generous donations Aldi colleagues make to our charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust. Since the scheme launched in June 2018, staff have donated over £31,000, proving pennies really do add up. We hope the scheme continues to grow in popularity and would recommend Pennies from Heaven to any organisation looking for a simple charitable giving scheme.”
“As a company we love our CSR activities including community and fundraising events. PFH is a brilliant and simple way to get everyone involved and make a big difference with minimal financial impact on take home pay. It is great to see how much we can raise without even thinking about it. Since we launched the scheme in 2018, we have seen participation increase and winning the Award will only increase engagement further. Such a fantastic initiative.” Karen Bateman. Gattaca PLC.
“We are delighted to be given this award, Pennies from Heaven has been smooth to implement from start to finish with fantastic communication and support throughout. It has proven to be a great introduction to payroll giving for our staff and the fund matching has meant we can double the figures for our company charity My Shining Star” One Savings Bank PLC
Last year Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust received a special recognition Award to acknowledge the hard work they had been doing promoting the scheme. The efforts have paid off as in just 18 months Pennies from Heaven donations have tripled and this year we are pleased to give them their first Bronze Award.
“It’s incredibly special to know so many Trust staff see the benefit of having a charity which supports the hospitals, and who feel moved to support us by making a monthly donation. “Of course, we’re always grateful for every donation, but having a regular source of income like this helps us plan for the future. We’re so pleased the Pennies from Heaven scheme has been and continues to be successful.” Donna O’Reilly. Manchester Foundation Trust Charity.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has been focusing on promoting the scheme to new joiners to the Trust which has also been the case at HSS Hire who have increased donations by 50% in 2018 earning them their first Platinum Award.
Pennies from Heaven is accessible and affordable to everyone and that’s why this year we keep our Award standards at the highest level to be accredited in the fundraising sector. With some of our members exceeding 60% participation we may have to consider raising the bar again next year!
“As an NHS organisation who is committed to supporting our national Charity Partner, Bloodwise, we are very pleased to have achieved a Pennies from Heaven Bronze Award. We’ve incorporated registration as part of our welcome day for new starters which has helped to increase our participation in the scheme and actively have Charity Representatives in our centres to support colleagues with joining. We will continue support a national charity as a continued priority, and will make Pennies From Heaven a part of that process.” Graham Bowditch. NHS Blood and Transplant
However, Awards should not just praise success, they should also encourage and motivate employers to do things even better. That is why, every year, we present one employer with our special Acorn Award. This Award is presented to an employer who is truly motivated to relaunch Pennies from Heaven and increase donations raised for their charities. It is also a commitment from Pennies from Heaven to support that employer above and beyond our normal services. We are pleased to say that this employer is Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust and we very much look forward to working with them in 2019. We hope that this collaboration helps support even further, the fantastic work of the Trusts chosen charity, North West Air Ambulance.
Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to receive the Pennies from Heaven Acorn Award. We are proud to be able to share this with everyone at the Trust and encourage them to join the Pennies from Heaven scheme. We are truly motivated to relaunch Pennies from Heaven at the Trust and increase donations raised. This award will support this relaunch and help us achieve an even higher sign-up rate to support our nominated charity, North west Air Ambulance. Martene Booth. Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust
